From my experience of working in multiple trades for over 25 years as a business owner, Contractors and Handymen get a bad reputation for being flaky, not professional, too busy, lacking skills and not communicating effectively.  The construction and home service industries are very time consuming, logistics oriented and specialized industries that clients are requesting higher levels of services. 

The Cause of the Contractor and Handyman Industry Issues.

The contractor, general contractor and handyman businesses are a surprisingly complex business as it requires planning, communication, knowledge, execution, job costing, understanding of building code, logistics, operational efficiencies and financing.  Many contractors work in one trade and decide at some point to go out on their own because they think they can do better.  They often don't know what a client wants, proper communication methods, how to price a project or how to meet customer expectations.   Many times contractors and handymen start a business on the side as a 'side hustle' until something better comes along.  Many contractors, to be able to make ends meet,  work long hours and are looking to finish the job they are on and move on to the next.  Often times contractors and handymen chase the next big project in the hopes that it will get them to the next level.  It ends up becoming a hamster wheel of always reaching for the next rung but they often times end up only running in circles.
